Coatings Operative

JOB OBJECTIVE

A Coatings Operative, also known as a Coatings Technician or Surface Coater, Painter, Painter/Blaster, Blaster/Painter is a skilled worker responsible for applying protective coatings, finishes, or paints to surfaces of various materials, such as metal, wood, or plastic. They play a crucial role in enhancing the durability, appearance, and performance of products in industries such as manufacturing, automotive, and construction.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare surfaces for coating by cleaning, sanding, or applying primer to ensure proper adhesion and surface finish.
  • Apply protective coatings, finishes, or paints to surfaces using spray guns, brushes, rollers, or other application methods according to specifications and quality standards.
  • Monitor coating processes, including coating thickness, drying times, and curing temperatures, to ensure proper application and adherence to specifications.
  • Inspect coated surfaces for defects, such as bubbles, runs, or uneven coverage, and make adjustments as necessary to achieve desired results.
  • Mix coating materials, including paints, varnishes, and sealants, according to formulation instructions and industry standards.
  • Maintain coating equipment and tools, including cleaning, calibrating, and performing routine maintenance, to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
  • Follow safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.
